You have some incorrect facts, fyi.
- When he stopped seeing the family, Alice was not growing up or hitting puberty. She was 11.
- There is no evidence he took children anywhere on his own. He tutored the son in their home, and adults came along on the boating trips to share the rowing. That’s in my story, in case you missed it.
- 30 semi-dressed photos are not “a lot” in an era where they were popular, featured on greeting cards and sought out by parents as artistic memories of their children.
- Child abuse existed and was known. There were rescue and reporting services in existence in 1850.
- The family statement about the missing pages pre-dates the pedophilia accusations, so that doesn’t fit either.
There are many who will agree with you, but even historians who joined in on the accusations are retracting and saying they were wrong about him.
I suspect he was ACE (asexual) in that he experienced much feelings of love, but had little interest in sexual relationships with anyone.
Glad you liked the tone of the piece. Thanks! :)
