Racism and bigotry is why the Democrats need a candidate that can beat Trump for no reason other than to get him out of there. Doesn’t even matter if they are qualified. Trump isn’t qualified, either.
Thing is, the president has limited power. A president can’t make laws or declare war. Those powers belong to congress. The people who created the constitution wanted to avoid putting too much power in the hands of one person.
True that every issue cannot be voted on by hundreds of reps, but that’s why there are three branches of government: legislative, executive and judicial. Checks and balances. The president is not all-mighty. Not even close.
What the president does do — very clearly — is set a tone for the nation and the tone he has set is one of blatant racism, bigotry and patriarchal culture. It’s not that there weren’t racists when Obama was in office, but that they knew enough to keep that sh*t to themselves.
Since Trump took office, racists have become bolder, and bigots seem pretty darn proud of themselves. It’s getting ugly your side of the border and Trump’s twitter nonsense fuels it. That is not something to be proud of.
If someone plays the same showbiz card Trump plays, I only hope they can do it well enough to beat him at his own game. It’s not like he’s adept at politics anyway, so someone equally inept at politics but without the racist bent would be an improvement. But what do I know. I’m Canadian.
