You and me both, Lori. I suspect people who are consumed by greed are fundamentally broken somehow, and they go through life desperately trying to fill up some dark hole deep inside of them. Taking, taking, more, more and it will never fill the hole, but they don’t see that. That’s how they’re broken.
What’s even worse is that they look at people who struggle and think they “deserve” that fate and don’t even connect their greed with others’ struggle.
It reminds me of the young woman in New York who died between shifts, working 2 fast food jobs to make ends meet. After she died, there was a public campaign to increase fast food salary to a minimum of $15/hour. The CEO of the company she worked for got on the news to respond and said $15/hour is outrageous. His salary is $15,000 per hour.
