Wow, Did You Know You Can Buy 100 Followers For $27?
A (true) cautionary tale and 5 tips to get more followers for new and struggling writers.
I ran across a man wailing on Facebook.
He’d joined a “get 100 followers on Medium” group.
The plan was, people who joined the group would link to their Medium profile page. Then they’d click and follow each other so everyone got their 100 followers.
You scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours. Like that.
Makes sense, right?
Hahahah. Can you hear the gods laughing?
So he patiently went through the list, following and getting followed and lordy be, praise the sun, moon and stars, he got his 100 followers. Yaaaay!
Know what he didn’t have? Reads. Or earnings. Yay, he’s in the partner program. Boo, he earned 13 cents.
None of that group actually wanted to READ each other’s work. Good grief, no. They just wanted followers.
They were so focused on the number of followers required to be in the partner program they didn’t stop to think about the logistics of 100 people reading each other’s stories.
Oops.
