What a delightful conversation. The way I see it, talent and behavior (humanity?) are different and unconnected. Some people idolize a writer/creator because of their talent. Others discount the talent if the humanity is lacking. And the third group sees them as separate and unrelated. Honestly, I think that's the most fair approach. If we threw out all books by people who were racist, rude, etc -- our shelves would be bare. It's true that fiction is the place to tackle taboo subjects, but at the same time rape in fiction is pretty much a trope. Last sentence made me full on laugh out loud. lol
