Views means opened/clicked. Reads means I made it to the end. Medium determines that by time on page and average reading time. If an article is marked as a 2 minute read and you stay on page 1 minute, they assume you didn’t finish reading.

Speed readers likely mess up those numbers unless they stay on the page the amount of time it says the read time is.
