This is so juvenile I can only hope “all” men don’t think that way. “In trouble” is a phrase best applied to children who’ve done something they were already asked not to do. I’d like to think grown adults (men or women) can hear the words “can we talk” and actually understand that it means nothing more and nothing less than simply that their partner wants to discuss something.

If grown men think the words “in trouble” then the marriage was in trouble long before she asked to talk about anything. Most people want a partner, not another child.
