This is about the most beautiful thing I’ve read in some time. Sometimes doing the next right thing feels so futile when you’re at the top of the mountain busting your face to make a very small sound. I think I needed this today. Thank you, Rick.

I think of that day often. It has become my metaphor for doing the next right thing. The next right thing is always there. Sometimes the ‘rightest’ thing is the smallest thing. Doing what is called for in the moment is, more often than not, a solitary pursuit to be enjoyed…savored…in the doing. What ends up getting ‘done’ will soon pass but the ‘doing’ keeps the wheel turning. I remember that day and the total Primacy of Process in all things. A book I read a long time ago said it like this: “Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for we shall reap in due season, if we faint not.” Hold to the belief that what you do makes a difference.
