We know this is about sexual entitlement: our culture teaches men from the time they are boys that women’s bodies, sexuality, time, and attention are there for them, and this happens in a country that doesn’t put resources toward the nuanced violence that American women often face.
There are few resources because a woman is not equal in the eyes of the law. The numbers documented are horrifying enough — Every 9 seconds in the US a woman is assaulted or beaten by a man. Every day, 600 women are raped in the USA. Every day, 3 American women are murdered by their partner or ex-partner. Every year, women experience 4.8 million partner-related physical assaults. That doesn’t include undocumented cases.
