…e days, what with the letter SF Ali received from Medium staff on his famously prolific recommends. Linda Caroll recently wrote an article noting that her stats show consistently good reading engagement, but that does not, for some reason, translate into those coveted green hearts.
The article was actually based on what I pulled up in Google.
For example, one of the articles referred to (not mine) had 1.6K views, 1.1K reads — but only 21 ❤s.
Does that even make sense? How is it that 1100 people read the whole article, but only 21 clicked the heart. The numbers don’t make sense.
It makes me think there’s a bit of “group think” going on.
Just like all the psychological tests that put a test subject in the room with a bunch of plants. (ie plants = people who are part of the test)
And if the fire alarm goes off and the other people don’t move, neither does the test subject. Majority rules. Group think.
I think it’s worth thinking about.
