Some of them are. But a lot are just playing the meta game. When only 6.4% of writers are making over $100 per month, writing about Medium on Medium is like showing up at the playground with candy.
If we lined up all the "how to" articles, for every piece of advice one person says, another contradicts it.
The biggest two things are being visible and being interesting. Writing every day won't help if the writer has no readers, or isn't interesting.
Picking a couple of niches and working on story telling skills is probably the best advice. But it's not a cheat or a hack or a trick, so it's not sexy or popular.
Good rant, though. We'd all love it to happen faster, right?
