People Who Hate Self Help Might Need It More Than Anyone
No man is an island. A dead poet said that in 1623 and it’s still just as true today.
Let’s start with the obvious.
Self.
It’s the operative word in self-help, right?
So why y’all looking for help from some rando on the internet? Fawning over some bozo who wrote a dumb book. Don’t you know it’s a scam? Don’t you know they profit off your gullible butt because you don’t get what “self” means?
That’s what people who hate self-help say.
Well, they’re wrong.
I’m going to tell you why.
No man is an island…
John Donne said that in 1623 in a poem called “For Whom The Bell Tolls.” Maybe you’ve heard of it.
No one knew that better than Frank O’Dea.
When Frank took his first sip of alcohol at 13, he didn’t know he’d be homeless at 26. His family was rich, but they kicked him out. Because of the drinking.
Mostly he panhandled to buy booze and eat a little. Slept on the streets. Once in a while he’d find a one day temp job that paid cash.
