You are right that sometimes writers need to be told to write. I wonder, though, if you asked those people what they do, if they would say they’re a writer. Seems to me a lot of people have to form the habit before they can use the word to describe themselves. I’m not sure on that, but i wonder…

My point is this — once they start writing, once they have the habit, it’s no longer a helpful tip. Once they have made the habit of writing regularly, they often need concrete tips.

All the mistakes I write about — I made all of them. Every single one. And more, I’m sure. The first articles I wrote years ago were horrid. The first time I had an article published in a real printed magazine, I was over the moon.
