Oh, MaryClare, I am not shitting on a person going from $20 to $40. Not one bit. If anything, I’m shitting on Medium for not paying writers better. All of them. Every last one. In 2021, Medium had 700K paid members, for an income of 3.5 million per month.

The number of people who write regularly is smaller than you realize. I got those numbers from an interview with Medium staff last year. Don’t know how many members they have today, but they have reduced the amount they pay writers drastically over the last year.

I’m not being uppity at all, or at least I sure don’t mean to be. But when I look at the rates they used to pay and the rates they pay now, it’s not fair to writers.
