Mixing serif and sans serif is a design trend. I’m seeing it a lot of places. Font sites are even featuring pairings of the two. I only know that because I make fonts as a hobby and have my work on a couple of font sites.

Also right on the intent behind plagiarism. Lack of preferred formatting is not plagiarism. A rose by any other name. :)
