Maybe the lady in the vehicle was a step mom. Or the only Mom he remembers because the real one is under the Mom tree. Or maybe it’s his Mom’s mom and he’s heard her say Mom is under the tree and is young enough to repeat the same words. Or maybe he tends towards tales of fancy. I would wonder, too. :)
