Long term jobs is one difference, for sure. But there have always been minimum wage jobs, too. Someone waiting tables for minimum wage 50 years ago didn't work any harder than someone waiting tables today. Except today, minimum wage has not kept up with the cost of living and would be $24/hour if it had. So the person doing the same job today is working just "as hard" for less. Make sense?
