…hink what bothers me is that every single criticism is considered an attack — ESPECIALLY on medium. People write: “Just listen to yourself — ignore everyone else. Ignore all the criticism.” How does one expect to grow as a writer or freelancer if they’re not learning from missteps and feedback from their audience (and intended customer!)? How do you grow if you exist within the confines of your own vacuum? These writers have a cruel awakening should they ever work with an editor, agent, publisher, etc.

It’s a funny dance, you know? Because I have had “blunt” feedback (not vitriol, but not polite either) that was really helpful. But at the same time, there’s a bit of danger in writing to please others too much.
I remember once writing a post and having one person say they enjoyed the humor in the piece, while another person said to stop trying to be funny and just stick to facts. We can’t please everyone, but we can at least keep an open mind.
Also — you are refreshingly honest and wanted to say how much I enjoy that. :)
