It was one of those “policy” things. Technically, women won the right to have their own bank accounts in the 1960s, but many banks had a policy requiring a male signature. So it depended on the bank. Maybe they’d let her open one, but maybe they wanted a male signature. Lots of dads signed to let their daughters get a bank account, too. :)
