It is horrible, for sure. A lot of garment workers are still locked in so they don't pitch themselves off the roof. As you said - we just moved it to other countries so we don't have to see it.
I read about that building and saw photos when I was researching this piece. Can't even imagine standing and looking at it. Must have been some kind of feels.
Several years ago I knew a woman that worked in fashion for years. But never high enough to see the abuses. 20 years in, she finally had worked herself high enough to be sent overseas to negotiate. She had a meltdown and left the entire industry.
My first draft for this was over 10 minutes long. Took some brutal cutting to get it to 7 minutes. I just wanted to tell ALL the stories. So much ugly.
