It is a little more complicated -- if you look at the part I quoted, there's a link to the extra "nuances" as they call it.

They explain it decently well for how convoluted it is. It's basically total reading time, but the rate is affected by how many writers the readers are reading. If reader A reads 20 different writers and reader B only reads 10 different writers, then reader B's reads pay more because it's a percentage of membership fees.

Which still has nothing to do with views. lol
