Indeed, those are all very good questions. It's a shame that it took so long before anyone figured out what happened. At this point, there would be literally no one alive that can shed much light. 700 years is such a long time. I'm doing some ancestry and it's astounding to realize that just a handful of generations is all it takes to lose any real knowledge. You know?
