Indeed, that’s sure a common thing. One of the ones that boggles my mind is the people who don’t seem to grasp that what words meant then isn’t necessarily what they mean now. Spare the rod, spoil the child is a good one. A rod was not a whipping tool, it was a tool to provide direction. But people use that as justification to wallop their kids because the bible says so.
