More importantly, the consumer mindset is shifting. People are becoming more and more selective about what to spend their money on. Apple understood this before almost anyone else, and they’ve led a design revolution that has changed the expectations of every consumer who chooses to buy a product. Thoughtfulness and great design matter.
I would love to believe this, but please walk into any Walmart on a Saturday and tell me consumers are becoming more selective.
Apple didn’t lead the pack because of superior design. What Apple DID do well is branding and positioning. If you truly believe their design is superior, their branding worked.
We have people walking around in Walmart clothes and Target shoes, carrying that one “superior” thing, whether it’s their iphone or the car they drive and thinking that means they are more selective.
Everyone is selective. This or that. It’s how our brain is made. The question is — WHAT are we selective about. The answer is not enough.
