I would love if some writers got paid more, but only if I was one of those writers. lol. The problem with paying “some” writers more is that no one would be able to agree with which writers “should” get more. Taste is subjective.

Medium already tried paying professional writers more than the rest of us riff-raff but that didn’t ring the cash register. So the question is — if we riff-raff are bringing in the readers, how would they decide who to compensate more? Know what I mean?

I mean — maybe they could do better at compensating people who bring in external traffic. As it is, incentive is low because we don’t get paid for those. It’s a puzzle that I’m glad *I* don’t have to be responsible to figure out.

F. Scott Fitzgerald once said “the test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in mind at the same time and still retain the ability to function.”

That’s kind of how this mess feels to me. One the one hand, time spent here isn’t probably the best use of one’s time. Like building a house on someone else’s land. On the other hand, there’s real potential and I’d love to tap it. Where else can you find that many readers in ONE place?

I will give some thought to that piece you suggest. :)
