I recently re-read Flowers For Algernon. Hadn't read it since it was assigned in school, forever ago. I'd walked into the library to pick up a hold and it was sitting on the "old classics" display out front. I'd say the same. I wouldn't put it on a list of highbrow classics. But still, I read it with different eyes. I saw things I didn't see as a student. Made me think of the saying that no two people read the same book. :)
