I loved this entire piece and gave it all the claps. But this part — this makes my heart hurt. Because yes, we need a rest from soul-draining things. But not everyone can leave the bills for the birds.

For some people, bills are the soul-draining things right now. Because they can’t pay them, and they’re not going away. No one is stepping forward to say “here, let me get that for you…”

In 2 months, or 3 months, the number of homeless will be probably be larger, while politicians pat themselves on the back for bringing the country safely through the crisis and we all look the other way. Because surely they deserved what they got, right? Isn’t that what we think of those who struggle?

Right now it’s easy to stay in our homes. But it hurts my heart to wonder what the fallout will be for the many who were already walking the line between financially safety and poverty. It’s a precarious and wiggly line at best.
