It’s kind of a scary thought because it’s one thing to think of global crises happening in the future, when we won’t have to (personally) live with the results. But 33 years — most of us will be alive to see it. That’s the time frame they’re talking about when we could hit overpopulation. Will we solve the problem in time? I don’t know.

There’s a chart of countries by birth rate and a chart of countries by population growth and it’s interesting to look at. There are countries with a negative number, and countries that — wow.

Another thing that makes it even more scary (to me) is that people with children are generally written off as a “hypocrite” if they talk about it. That’s not helpful. 33 years to estimated overpopulation isn’t a very long time.
