For most people, the answer is no. Only 18% of Americans have 3–5 months of living expenses in their saving account. A full one third of working Americans are low income earners who need to work to make ends meet.

Most of us are not working for our own status signaling. We are working to make ends meet and our labor provides profit that fuels the status signaling of the management and board of directors.
