Amy, this is one of the loveliest things I’ve read.

It seems to me that complaining about mothers is a popular thing on the internet. Oh, how we love to hate on mothers for every shortcoming. And who knows those better than their kids, right? When I read those, I sometimes peek to see if they have kids. Specifically, if their kids are teenagers yet. Usually, not.

Often, teenagers think their parents are hopelessly dumb, out of date and wrong more often than not. Sometimes, they have more than one person’s share of attitude. The first time my child, as a teen, told me how clued out I am and yelled that I’m “ruining” her life, I ran to my Mom to say I’m sorry for every time I behaved that way myself.

Because 15 or 18 or 35 years into parenting, you still have just as much skin in the game. Parenting is HARD. None of us are born perfect and having a child doesn’t magically make our failings melt away. Thank you for writing this. ❤
