I read about a little boy who was 10 and said to his teacher it’s very hard to think about math and numbers when I am so hungry I can’t think. But we look the other way, politically and culturally, and when that kid is a drunk on the streets because he can’t read and can’t get a job, somehow it’s his own “moral” failing. No. It’s ours.
