Agreed. However, there’s a vast world of difference between challenging an idea and verbal abuse and/or ridicule directed at a writer.

The handy phrase is attack ideas, not people.

When I see a writer that has worked to build an audience, writing, commenting, interacting — and their reward is abuse and profanity in the comments section — it makes me question whether I want that.

That’s in your hands. Real simple to make “attack ideas not people” one of the terms here. Harder to enforce, for sure.

This platform is brilliant, growing and popular. I’m sure there’s a way to make it a place where verbal abuse is not only unwelcome, but unacceptable.
