She was a queen at 18, the richest woman in the world, lover of Julius Caesar, and Marc Antony, the most famous woman of the Greco-Roman era — and yet almost everything we know about her is wrong. How sad is that?
She was not a promiscuous seductress. She had sex with two men and bore children to both. She didn’t kill herself by the bite of an asp hidden in a basket of figs. That’s a dramatization. She poisoned herself to avoid being taken prisoner of war and paraded through the streets in chains.
She was the queen of…
You know what really sucks? It really sucks when your pain is someone else’s profit. Sometimes it’s intentional. Like when the pharmaceutical industry charges $1000 for a pill that cost $2 to manufacture.
Other times, it’s just part of how the internet works. Some topic starts trending and a lot of people jump on the bandwagon.
For years, no one was very interested in narcissists. Now it’s trending off the charts. 100% interest. See?
Tim Denning wrote a post saying he got scammed on his website design.
He thinks it’s because he’s a sucker.
But that’s not why he got scammed.
I know, because I’ve spent 26 years cleaning up the crap created by people who “think” they’re designers because they know a platform.
When I built my first site in 1995, Microsoft Frontpage was my Achille’s Heel. People would take some stupid course in Frontpage and hang out a designer’s shingle. Because yay, they’re “certified.” Sigh.
Then people like me had to clean up the sh*t they created.
Now it’s Wordpress, Squarespace…
Once upon a time, a princess was born with hair black as ebony, skin as white as snow and lips red as a rose. You know this one? The brothers Grimm called her Snow White but that wasn’t really her name.
Of all the fairy tales, who would think Snow White was real?
It sounds too bizarre.
A talking mirror, a wicked stepmother, dwarves living in cottages in the forest. Sounds like something a skilled storyteller would make up, right?
But you know what they say. Truth is stranger than fiction.
She wasn’t just a made-up fairy tale. …
This isn’t about Medium, even though I’m starting with Ev’s highlight.
It’s about people and struggle and your reputation as a writer.
Someone wrote a post complaining about meta posts. It said “imagine a non-writer arriving at Medium and having to wade through all that crap.”
Ev highlighted it.
When Lucy Christiana woke up in the morning, there was a pot of cold pee under her bed and her room was always either too hot or too cold.
She couldn’t jump into a hot shower because they hadn’t been invented yet. And a bath was out. Bathing was once a week and she shared the bathwater with her family. They’d heat water on the fire to fill the tub and then they would all take turns bathing. In the same water.
So when she woke up, she just got up and got dressed. Which sounds a lot easier than…
Beauty and the Beast is one of the most popular fairy tales of all time and one of the most beloved stories ever told, according to Disney. Their 2017 live-action movie, starring Emma Watson, became one of the highest-grossing films of all time.
But there’s something Disney didn’t tell anyone. Not with the live-action film, and not when they released the animated version decades ago.
It wasn’t a fairy tale… not to the couple who lived it.

Any? I’ve earned that much, but I’d only need one hand to count them — and I’d have fingers left. lol.
I’m asking because if you’re a writer — you could win $2000.
For writing a poem. It doesn’t even have to rhyme.
Freestyle is fine. Who can’t write freestyle?
The word count is super flexible. Submissions must be between 100 and 2,000 words. So, whether you favor long or short form, you’re good!
Honestly — how often do you write 100 (or 1200) words for peanuts?
Plus — you don’t have to be the shiny, mc-smarty-pants super-star that beats…
The woman was seeing lions and monkeys in her house. But that wasn’t the worst. She was disoriented and aggressive.
That wasn’t the worst, either.
The worst was that she thought her husband was an imposter. Like one of those body snatchers. She’d scream over and over that it’s not her husband. It made her hysterical, seeing that imposter.
He didn’t know how to handle that.
Neither did the doctors.
I don’t know what I would do if a family member was doing that. Screaming that I’m an imposter. Day after day until I was half insane myself.
I’ve been watching people on Facebook, Twitter, Medium and the news talk about getting their vaccines. So many reactions. Relief, mostly.
Some people even cried with the sheer relief.
Like they could finally breathe again after being on edge for so long. Too long. A year of worrying, masking, distancing. Am I safe? Is my family safe? Are my kids safe? Do I really need to go to the store or can we make do?
Getting that vaccine felt like a light at the end of the tunnel.
That’s what a lot of people said.
So when I got the…
